GOSPEL MEETING AND VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL—BARTICA GUYANA
Five Baptized in Bartica with Serendipity in Canje
God blessed our team of eleven workers from the West Hobbs St. congregation in Athens, AL, with a total of five precious souls obeying the Lord in Gospel obedience during the Gospel meeting at Bartica.
Bill and Ginger Irby, Brent and Denise Peek, Steve and Doris Carr, Nancy Norman, Vicki Paine, John Colgan, Billy Peek and I traveled to Bartica, Guyana, and conducted a Gospel Meeting and Vacation Bible School for the Bartica congregation. The Gospel meeting was designed not only to evangelize but also to edify the congregation with instructive lessons that they had not received previously. We feel that those lessons should help them toward their maturing in Christ.
Following the effort in Bartica we traveled to Canje, a congregation established in August of 2001, and met with a good number of the members on Friday afternoon. Bill Irby, Brent Peek and I spoke to them encouraging them to continue their spiritual and numerical growth in the Lord. We exhorted them to be faithful and dedicated in their service to the Master! Tony Kissoon is the very capable local preacher at Canje.
God gave us a serendipity! Chris Karfur, a young man whom we helped go to Canada for heart surgery years ago, obeyed the Gospel after a brief study at the building that Friday afternoon. Chris has studied with numerous Christians over the years. He is now 20 years old and will need his pacemaker replaced September 25th, Lord willing. Jimmy and Sue Crabtree in Montgomery, Alabama, played a major role in the life Chris and his mother, Sandra, helping to arrange for the heart surgery and assisting financially and spiritually over the years. I know they will rejoice when they learn of Chris’ obedience to Christ. We had not anticipated this serendipity at Canje. God is good, all the time!
